So here's how the house is today, March 5th. Should we put the planned rails on it or just posts without railings? Let me know what you think!!!
I love watching your progress. Pillars without rails are a lot less maintenance! You will also have a less obstructed view as you sit on the porch. The rails, on the other hand, have that homey-inviting look! (and hide the occasionnal mess on the proch!)
I'm torn because I love how the house drawing is WITH the rails and I've always wanted them but it's such a small height of the grown AND less cost and maintenance to NOT put them on. I'm trying to eyeball the blueprint drawings and see if I can decide from those...
Leave out the rails! I love the open space and full view of the GORGEOUS house! Besides, the porch doesn't seem too high off the ground. My inlaws have a porch without rails, and none of the babies has ever fallen.
We have the rails, and they are a pain to paint. However, you can put gates across the openings and pen in animals or babies. The rails do give you more of the feeling of another "room".
Lovely house, Joanna! So excited for you. I think I agree with the others about the rails. I'm sure they'd look beautiful but low maintenance is always better. : )

Joanna,
The house is BEAUTIFUL! an open porch is so lovely, I suppose it would depend upon how far the toddlers have to fall if they overrun the porch!

We took the rails off our porch, and have never regretted it. We also have two dogs!
Blessings,
